Dear Parents and Guardians,

I sincerely hope that you were able to enjoy some great family time this holiday season.  We are looking forward to having students back next week and hope they are looking forward to returning!

As you know, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is threatening to make for some unusual times ahead once again.  This week, our staff have been busy tightening up our school’s COVID protocols and planning for the various possible outcomes ahead.  Although one possibility is that we may need to pivot to online learning for a period of time, we are hopeful that we will be able to have students attending onsite as much as possible.

In addition to getting ready for the possibility of online learning, we have also been preparing for staffing shortages; thinking of ways we can keep our students happy, safe and learning with fewer staff in the building if necessary.  One thing for sure is that we will be doing a fair amount of outdoor learning in the New Year.  Please help with this by sending your child well dress for outdoor activities including snow pants, boots, toques and mitts.

As we move forward, we will also be moving back to stricter protocols.  Unfortunately, this will mean no visitors at the school again for a while.  Also, any students who start feeling unwell throughout the day will be sent home as soon as possible.  Please be sure to keep your child home if they may be feeling unwell.

As we look beyond this next wave, we are hopeful to get back to more normal activities that will involve parent helpers.  If you think you may be able to help out with things such as driving or working with groups of students, it would be wonderful if you could complete the criminal record check requirement ahead of time to be ready.  There is no cost and the process is much simpler now.  Please click on this link to complete:  Criminal Record Check (gov.bc.ca)

Together, we will get through this next period of unknowns and come out stronger and wiser than before.  In the meantime, thank you for all your support and for remaining understanding, caring and kind.

Sincerely,

Glen Overgaard

Principal
